What I Learned as a Marketing Intern at BlinkJar Media
Hello everyone! My name is Kingsley Lavender. I’m originally from Baton Rouge, but I have moved around over the years because of my parents’ work. I just finished my sophomore year at Sewanee: The University of the South, where I am also on the men’s soccer team.
Returning to Baton Rouge for the summer was exciting, especially with the World Cup going on in the U.S. As a soccer player, that made the summer even more exciting. I was also eager to gain real-world experience and learn more about digital marketing through my internship with BlinkJar Media.
What Did I Expect From My Marketing Internship?
Before my first day, I felt a mix of nerves, excitement, and curiosity. I was anxious about meeting new coworkers and learning what would be expected of me, but I was also excited to better understand marketing.
Before this internship, I thought marketing was mostly social media posts, commercials, online ads, and billboards. I quickly learned that digital marketing involves much more strategy than I originally realized.
What Did I Learn at BlinkJar Media?
Everyone at BlinkJar Media was welcoming and helpful from the beginning, which made it easier to learn and ask questions. During my internship, I was introduced to several areas of digital marketing, including blog writing, SEO, social media, website updates, analysis and reporting.
I learned that marketing is not just about creating content. It is about helping businesses communicate clearly, reach the right audience, and build trust online.
How Did I Learn About SEO and Content Marketing?
One of the biggest things I learned was how important SEO is for helping businesses show up online. I learned that blogs should not only include keywords, but also answer real questions people are searching for.
This helped me understand how content supports both SEO and AEO by making information easier for people and search engines to find. Writing clearly, organizing content well, and focusing on helpful answers all play an important role in digital marketing.
What Was My Favorite Internship Project?
My favorite project was working on a client’s Duda and HubSpot websites. This gave me a better understanding of what goes on behind the scenes to build and maintain a website.
I was able to update pages and see my work appear on the website in real time. That made the project feel meaningful because I could see how my work contributed to a real business website.
What Are My Biggest Takeaways From BlinkJar Media?
My time at BlinkJar Media taught me that digital marketing requires strategy, creativity, teamwork, and attention to detail. I also learned the importance of deadlines and communication because businesses depend on work being completed on time.
I also gained a better understanding of how to use artificial intelligence more efficiently as a tool for brainstorming, writing, and organizing ideas. Most importantly, this internship helped me become more confident in a professional setting.
I am grateful for the opportunity to learn from the team at BlinkJar Media. This experience gave me a stronger understanding of digital marketing and showed me how much work goes on behind the scenes to help businesses grow online.
