Social Media Engagement Strategy: Understanding the HBO Method

Rikki Broussard • October 1, 2024

When creating social media posts, finding the right words that attract and engage your audience is a consistent challenge. Fortunately, there are many different strategies for writing effective social media content, with one of the most powerful being the HBO Method—Hook, Buy-In, and Offer. This approach streamlines your content creation process and boosts engagement with your content by effectively capturing attention, building connections, and driving action. Before you ask, no, this HBO Method won't get you free access to the streaming service or app, but it will make your social media as engaging as a hit series!

How to Create Engaging Social Media Hooks

The first step in the HBO Method is creating a hook that grabs your audience's attention right off the bat. You have only a few seconds to make an impression, so your hook needs to be strong and captivating.

Think about what makes your content unique and how you can present it in a way that immediately draws people in. Whether it's a provocative question, a striking visual, or a compelling headline, your hook should entice your audience to want to know more.

Effective Strategies to Build Buy-In on Social Media

Once you've captured your audience's attention, the next step is to build buy-in. This involves creating content that resonates with your followers and encourages them to engage with you. It's about establishing a genuine connection and fostering a community.

Share valuable information, tell relatable stories, and ask for your audience's input. Engaging with comments, likes, and shares helps to create a two-way conversation, making your followers feel valued and more connected to your brand.

Turning Social Media Engagement into Action

The final component of the HBO Method is making an offer that your audience can't resist. After capturing their attention and building a connection, it's time to present a clear and compelling call to action.

Whether it's a special discount, exclusive content, or a limited-time offer, your goal is to convert the engagement you've built into a tangible action. Make sure your offer is easy to understand, act upon, and highlight the benefits to your audience.

What are some examples of the HBO Method?

Here are two examples of the HBO method in action. In the first, the hook, buy-in, and offer are all presented in the caption. In the second, the image captures the user's attention, while the caption delivers the buy-in and offer.

Social media HBO method

The HBO Method presents an effective approach to achieving social media success, whether that's organic or paid social media posts. By incorporating a hook, buy-in, and an offer, you can expect growth in likes, shares, and comments as you refine your social media engagement skills. Why Your New Website Isn’t Showing Up in Google Yet
By Rikki Broussard October 22, 2025
Hey everyone, it’s Rikki here! I like to write blogs based on real questions from our clients. Recently, we launched two brand-new websites on fresh domains. Everything about the design, development, and launch went smoothly, but once the sites were live, both clients asked the same question: “Why can’t I find my site on Google yet? Launching a new website is exciting. After weeks (sometimes months) of planning and building, the site is finally live. Naturally, the next step is to open Google, type in one of your main keywords, and expect to see your business right at the top. But here’s the reality: search engines don’t work like flipping a light switch. It’s completely normal (although frustrating) for brand-new websites to take time before appearing in Google search results . How Google Finds and Ranks Websites When your new site goes live, Google has to: Crawl – Send its “bots” to scan and read the site. Index – Store those pages in Google’s database. Rank – Decide where your site belongs in the search results compared to competitors. Submitting a sitemap and setting up Google Search Console helps Google know your site exists. But discovery doesn’t mean instant visibility; it just means the process has started.
